What is Walgreens role in the administration of vaccines?
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Walgreens has been a vital partner in testing and community education, and our trained immunizers have administered more than 30 million COVID-19 vaccines in stores and through dedicated clinics since the first vaccines were approved in December. Across both state and federal programs, Walgreens is providing vaccinations in all 49 states and territories where we operate. With our nationwide presence, extensive vaccine experience and trusted community pharmacists, we are confident we can help accelerate COVID-19 vaccine administration nationwide.
What is the progress of long-term care facilities by jurisdiction?
Walgreens has completed more than 60,000 long-term care facility clinics and provided approximately 3 million COVID-19 vaccinations to residents and staff who opted to receive a vaccine.
How does a patient know if they are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine?
All adolescents and adults are now able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, nationwide. The Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines can be administered to individuals 18 years old and older; the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine can be administered to individuals 12 years old and older.
How will you ensure access to a vaccine in rural communities or for disadvantaged populations?
Walgreens continues to advance key priorities identified as part of the company’s Vaccine Equity Initiative to drive equitable access to vaccines, including creating new access solutions, facilitating educational programs that address hesitancy and fostering partnerships that best meet the needs of each community. Nearly half of all federal vaccine allocation is being distributed to Walgreens stores in Medically Underserved Areas (MUAs) and areas with a high social vulnerability index score, and Walgreens pharmacists make proactive outbound calls to ensure residents in those communities receive vaccination appointments.
To better provide ease of access, Walgreens launched mobile clinics focusing on bringing COVID-19 vaccines directly to underserved communities and those with barriers to accessing the vaccine. Individuals are able to walk up to a mobile clinic and secure an appointment for the same day.
The company is also partnering with Uber to address vaccine hesitancy and transportation barriers and expanding off-site clinics and educational programs with community partners across the country. Users can also schedule their vaccination at Walgreens directly in the Uber app.
Are COVID-19 vaccines available at all Walgreens pharmacies?
Yes, COVID-19 vaccinations are available at all retail locations. Walgreens offers patients the ability to schedule an appointment ahead of time or the same day, in stores across the country. To schedule an appointment, visit Walgreens.com/ScheduleVaccine or call 1-800-Walgreens, both available in Spanish and English.
Are COVID-19 boosters available at Walgreens?
As of September 24, Walgreens is offering Pfizer COVID-19 boostre shots for those eligible, following Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommendation and new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Who is eligible to receive a booster at this time?
The following populations are eligible to receive a booster dose at this time:
- Individuals ages 65 and older.
- Long-term care facility residents ages 18 and older.
- Individuals ages 18 and older with underlying medical conditions.
- Individuals ages 18-64, based on their individual benefits and risks, who are at an increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting, such as healthcare and essential workers.
Can you interchange vaccines?
At this time, safety and efficacy data are being reviewed and the CDC does not recommend the interchangeability of Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines.
Can a person get their booster at Walgreens if they didn’t get the initial vaccinations at our stores?
Yes, patients can schedule through Walgreens.com/ScheduleVaccine and choose the option to schedule a booster. They will be asked to verify they are eligible and list the last dose of COVID-19 vaccine received.
Who is administering the COVID-19 vaccine at Walgreens?
Nearly 60,000 certified immunizers have the training and expertise to administer COVID-19 vaccines.
How is Walgreens protecting the safety of patients and team members administering vaccines?
We are meeting or exceeding CDC guidelines for the administration of vaccines. Walgreens has a daily screening process for employees, which includes a temperature check before the start of each shift. Pharmacy team members wear disposable face masks at all times, including while administering vaccines. They also follow proper hand hygiene and glove use procedures that are typical for immunizations. As an additional safety measure, all pharmacy team members administering vaccines wear plastic face shields for additional protection. Immunization areas will be cleaned and disinfected after each patient.
What is the cost of the vaccine?
The COVID-19 vaccine is available at no cost to those receiving it.
How is Walgreens storing vaccines requiring sub-zero temperatures?
We are using a combination of ultra-cold freezers and dry ice storage hubs to support the storage of vaccines requiring sub-zero temperatures. You can learn more here.
Is Walgreens providing vaccinations directly to employers?
Walgreens has partnerships with hundreds of employers as part of Test and Protect™ COVID-19 efforts, including Apple, Amtrak, Tractor Supply Company, and T-Mobile to help protect thousands of employees across the country.
Companies were initially responsible for working with state and federal governments to secure vaccine allocation. As vaccine allocations continues to be available and as of recent, eligibility has expanded to all above 12 years old, we can provide our pharmacy services to administer vaccines to businesses seeking to offer vaccinations to their employees where eligible, leveraging our decades of experience with routine immunizations, as well as recent efforts administering COVID-19 vaccines in long-term care facility and through off-site clinics.

What is Walgreens COVID-19 Vaccine Equity Initiative?
Walgreens is committed to driving health equity to build healthier communities. Our vaccine equity initiative is focused on driving equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines for underserved communities that have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.
The Walgreens COVID-19 vaccine equity initiative is our broad plan to accelerate equitable distribution of COVID vaccines. Efforts center on:
- Education and information that addresses hesitancy and provides credible information about eligibility and appointment scheduling
- Equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines through providing COVID-19 vaccinations in our stores and through offsite and mobile clinics
- Partnerships with community organizations as well as other corporations that share our focus on accelerating equitable access and addressing access barriers like lack of transportation
Is Walgreens working with Uber? What are the details of that agreement?
Walgreens and Uber share a common commitment to provide equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines. Our companies are using our expertise to accelerate access to vaccines for all, and we’ve started by providing free and discounted rides to and from COVID-19 vaccine appointments for medically underserved populations, many of which are communities of color. We believe that transportation should never be a barrier to healthcare. We look forward to building on this exciting partnership to help connect more people with vaccines, as we all work together to help end this pandemic.
How does the Walgreens-Uber partnership work; how can people sign up to get a free ride to their COVID-19 vaccine appointments?
Walgreens and Uber will work with community organizations that will distribute free rides. Individuals in need of transportation assistance must be identified by participating partner organizations. Community partners will be provided with tools from Uber that will allow them to schedule rides and direct members on how to schedule rides. In a recent expansion of the partnership, users can also now schedule their vaccination at Walgreens directly in the Uber app.
How are underserved areas identified; what’s the criteria?
Walgreens follows federal guidance for what classifies both geographic areas and populations as being medically underserved, as well as the CDC’s high social vulnerability index score. We also consider the specific needs of each community, collaborations with community partners, and more. Since March Walgreens has hosted more than 800 offsite clinics, nearly half of which have occurred in medically underserved areas.
How is Walgreens helping to address vaccine hesitancy?
Although we are seeing levels of vaccine hesitancy slightly decrease, we recognize it as not being just one thing, it’s many things. Health is personal, so the message and how we help patients overcome hesitancy needs to address their personal experience and situation. We’re taking a multi-faceted approach that includes our pharmacists, educational content on our website and social media, and partnerships with civic leaders, advocacy groups, and faith-based organizations.
How will you ensure that people without internet can sign up for a vaccine appointment?
Vaccine appointments can be made by calling 1-800-Walgreens, in-store, and by calling your local Walgreens. Patients will be able to schedule both vaccination appointments at the same time. Our pharmacists will also recommend scheduling a second dose appointment at the point of vaccination. Walk-in appointments same day appointments are also available in stores across the country.
Is your scheduler and phone line available in Spanish?
Yes, patients can call 1-800-Walgreens or their local Walgreens location for assistance in Spanish or English.

COVID-19 Testing at Walgreens
What is Walgreens doing to further expand COVID-19 testing locations?
Walgreens has established COVID-19 testing sites available to individuals age 3 and older across the country, including Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico, to help meet the growing need in communities nationwide.
Walgreens has prioritized its efforts on improving access to COVID-19 testing in underserved communities, with more than half of Walgreens testing sites currently located in areas where the CDC has identified as socially vulnerable. We have expanded our testing capacity to allow for up to 500,000 COVID-19 tests per month and tests are now available to eligible individuals age 3 and older.

Who is able to visit the sites for testing - is it open to the general public?
Testing will be available at no cost to eligible individuals who meet CDC criteria. All drive-thru testing occurs outdoors and patients do not leave their vehicles throughout the process. For more information on testing locations, visit Walgreens.com/Covid19Testing.
Does Walgreens offer any at-home test options?
Through Walgreens Find Care®, individuals can connect to the Clinical Reference Laboratory website to request a HealthConfirm®-branded COVID-19 Saliva Test or the Pixel by Labcorp website to request a Pixel by Labcorp™ COVID-19 At-Home Collection Kit, after completing a short COVID-19 survey to determine eligibility.
Beginning in spring 2021, individuals can purchase the Pixel by Labcorp™ COVID-19 At-Home Collection Kit over-the-counter in up to 6,000 Walgreens stores nationwide.

What are contactless shopping options available to customers?
We are offering customers a variety of contactless shopping options including:
- Contactless delivery to their door in under two hours with Same Day Delivery on more than 24,000 items directly from Walgreens.
- Online or app order pickup curbside, at the drive-thru or in store.
- Contactless payment options with Apple Pay or with credits cards that offer contactless, “tap and pay” technology at the point-of-sale.
- Online shopping at Walgreens.com, with free delivery on any purchases over $35.
Are you requiring team members or customers to wear masks in stores?
Per the latest CDC guidance, Walgreens team members who are fully vaccinated will no longer be required to wear face covers while working, unless mandated by state and local regulations. Team members who are not fully vaccinated will continue wearing them while working. Those who chose to no longer wear a face cover must confirm to being fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The update applies to team members in all Walgreens locations including stores, distribution centers, facilities and support offices.
Walgreens supports any team member’s decision to continue wearing a face cover regardless of vaccination status. Team members will continue to wear face covers when administering vaccines or COVID-19 tests.
Fully vaccinated customers no longer need to wear face coverings inside of our stores, unless state or local regulations require them. Customers who are not fully vaccinated are asked to continue wearing face covers. The health and safety of our customers and team members will continue to guide our decision process.
Is Walgreens providing wipes for customers to wipe down their carts and baskets?
Walgreens is providing wipes at the front of stores to clean shopping carts and baskets chainwide.
What is the best way for customers to stay up-to-date on product availability of high-demand items in your stores?
Our website updates with the latest available store inventory information frequently throughout the day.
What happens when there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 in your store?
Walgreens champions the health and well-being of every community in America, and we are committed to providing a safe environment for our team members and customers. When notified of a confirmed or presumed positive COVID-19 case, we take actions meeting or exceeding recommendations from the CDC, OSHA, public health officials and other credible sources while following federal, state and local health advisories. Our clinical and safety teams work closely with our field and store leadership to respond accordingly, which may include identifying and contacting individuals who may be at risk in order to self-quarantine or self-monitor their health, as well as cleaning and disinfecting the location or impacted areas of the store.
We are actively reviewing our policies and procedures as guidelines evolve, and will continue to adjust our safety protocols accordingly to promote the safety and well-being of our team members and customers.
What’s happening in our pharmacies?
How are you preparing pharmacy staff to address patient questions regarding COVID-19?
Working closely with our clinical and safety teams, we continuously share the latest information from the CDC and other health officials with our pharmacy team members to serve as a resource and help address any patient questions/concerns.
Our pharmacists are trained and equipped to discuss medication-related concerns and alternative methods for prescription dispensing, such as prescription delivery or drive-thru options. Patients can reach a Walgreens pharmacist via phone, in store or using the pharmacy chat option on our website and Walgreens app. Our pharmacy team also partners with health plan partners, physicians and state officials to help patients access the medications they need through services like 90-day medication supply, early refill authorizations and prescription delivery services.
How can patients access their prescriptions if they are being quarantined or want to avoid going in-store?
Patients looking for alternative ways to access their prescriptions may use our pharmacy drive-thru, and Walgreens is waiving delivery fees for all eligible prescriptions. Patients should talk to their pharmacists to confirm their prescriptions are eligible for delivery at this time. They can also send a representative to pick up their medications on their behalf if they choose.
Are pharmacists still providing immunization services (other than COVID-19 vaccines, once available)?
Yes, key measures Walgreens is implementing to ensure the safe administration of immunizations for our patients and pharmacy team members include:
- All pharmacy team members are required to wear disposable face masks at all times, including while administering immunizations, and follow proper glove and handwashing procedures that are standard for vaccination administration.
- As an additional safety measure, all pharmacy team members administering immunizations are receiving plastic face shields to be used during immunizations for eye protection.
- Patients entering a pharmacy are encouraged to wear a face covering to protect others, and those who do not have one will be provided a facemask prior to receiving immunizations.
- At least six feet of distance is maintained between pharmacy waiting area chairs where patients may choose to complete paperwork and wait for their immunization or appointment.
Keeping our team members safe
Are you doing temperature checks in your stores?
We are conducting daily health checks for team members in our distribution centers, centralized services, regional offices, corporate offices and stores.
What is the expectation for employees who aren’t feeling well?
All employees who are not feeling well and have symptoms associated with COVID-19 are encouraged to stay home and contact their primary care physician. We have protocols in place to self-isolate employees who are diagnosed with COVID-19 by test or who have been given a presumptive diagnosis of COVID-19 by their primary care physician, and corresponding guidelines for other employees who have had close contact with the person with symptoms.
Would hourly team members be paid if they take sick time due to a COVID-19 incident in store, or are diagnosed with COVID-19?
To help our team members through this period, we’ve made several key changes regarding team member pay and benefits, including:
- Relaxing our attendance policy for team members by permitting team members to stay at home due to concerns surrounding COVID-19 for situations including childcare needs due to school closures, camp closures and lack of daycare, or if team members are exhibiting COVID-19-like symptoms such as fever, cough or shortness of breath.
- Paying team members for up to the first two weeks of their absence if they are tested positive for COVID-19, if they are diagnosed positive (presumed positive) by their healthcare provider even without a test, or are exhibiting COVID-19-like symptoms while also being a close contact as defined by the CDC to an individual who is a confirmed or presumed positive. The team member will not be required to use paid time off (PTO) or vacation time, and/or apply for disability benefits during this time. If team members are unable to recover and return to work after two weeks, an additional pay option may be available via disability leave.
- Paying team members showing COVID-19-like symptoms as outlined by the CDC for the day of their work shift and the next day if scheduled to work and unable to secure an appointment with a medical provider on the first day of their absence.
- Paying team members for the remainder of their shift and for the next day (if scheduled to work) while they seek a medical opinion about whether they have COVID-19 if a store leader or manager observes COVID-19-like symptoms and requires them to go home for the day.
- Ensuring that if a store, area office, distribution center or other company workplace location falls under a mandated quarantine, any impacted team members will be paid for their absence without requiring the use of PTO.
Team members based in the company’s U.S. support offices are required to be fully vaccinated by Sept. 30 with any of the vaccines currently available. Team members who work in these locations who are unable to be vaccinated will be required to enroll in a COVID-19 testing program.
While Walgreens strongly encourages COVID-19 vaccination for all team members, at this time, this mandate does not apply to U.S. team members in stores, distribution centers or other facilities or non-U.S. support offices.
We follow the latest guidance from the CDC and local and state health officials, and we are continually evaluating policies and procedures throughout the pandemic to help best ensure the health and safety of our customers and team members.
