Walgreens to Offer Free Blood Glucose Testing at Select Stores Across the Country During National Diabetes Month in November

DEERFIELD, Ill., Oct. 31, 2011 - According to the American Diabetes Association, nearly 2 million new cases of diabetes were diagnosed in people 20 years and older last year. If current trends continue, one of three American adults could have diabetes by 2050. To help customers find out if they may be at risk for diabetes, select Walgreens (NYSE: WAG)(NASDAQ: WAG) stores across the country will offer free blood glucose testing during National Diabetes Month this November.

Walgreens Valparaiso, Ind. Return Center Recertified, Awarded Indiana Department of Labor’s Highest Designation for Workplace Safety

DEERFIELD, Ill., Oct. 27, 2011 - Walgreens (NYSE, NASDAQ: WAG) today announced that its return center in Valparaiso, Ind. has been recertified as a Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Award site from the Indiana Department of Labor (IDOL). The VPP Star Award is IDOL’s highest designation for workplace safety and recognizes businesses that show excellence in occupational safety and health. As part of the review process, IDOL evaluates past records, examines the facility’s written safety and health management plan, conducts a detailed on-site evaluation and evaluates ongoing safety performance. Team member participation in health and safety activities and ergonomics are also factored into the IDOL assessment.

Walgreens Joins HHS, CDC and CMS to Launch Million Hearts Initiative to Prevent 1 Million Heart Attacks and Strokes Over Five Years

DEERFIELD, Ill., Sept. 13, 2011 - Walgreens, (NYSE: WAG)(NASDAQ: WAG) together with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), today announced a new effort to fight heart disease with Million Hearts Initiative in Washington, D.C. This public and private sector initiative is a coordinated approach to help prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes over five years by finding ways to reduce the number of people who need treatment and improve the quality of treatment for those who need it. According to the CDC, heart disease and stroke are the first and third leading causes of death.

Each test also includes a free blood pressure reading and personal consultation with a Walgreens pharmacist.

Gov. Quinn Promotes “Earth Month” in Illinois with Tour of Oak Park Walgreens Drugstore Using Geothermal Energy System

DEERFIELD, Ill., April 19, 2011 - As part of “Earth Month” in Illinois, Gov. Patrick Quinn today toured a Walgreens (NYSE: WAG)(NASDAQ: WAG) drugstore in Oak Park, Ill., that features the first geothermal energy system used in a chain drugstore in the country. The system, which went live when the store opened last October, has reduced the store’s expected energy usage by 60 percent.
