Walgreens HIV-Specialized Pharmacies Help Fill Gaps in Care Highlighted on World AIDS Day

DEERFIELD, Ill., Nov. 28, 2012 - On World AIDS Day, Dec. 1, Walgreens (NYSE: WAG) (Nasdaq: WAG) encourages communities to focus on the importance of HIV testing and early treatment, key priorities and services addressed through its more than 700 HIV-specialized pharmacies coast to coast. Walgreens HIV-specialized pharmacies directly support the National HIV/AIDS Strategy by offering a range of personalized services that can improve health outcomes, increase access and help fill gaps in care, particularly in AIDS-endemic communities where stigma and other disparities may hamper diagnosis and complicate treatment.

Walgreens Raises more than $4 Million for American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund

DEERFIELD, Ill., Nov. 15, 2012 - Walgreens (NYSE: WAG) (Nasdaq: WAG) and the American Red Cross today announced that more than $4 million was raised by Walgreens and Duane Reade customers nationwide who made donations to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund since Nov. 5. Walgreens implemented the fundraising program in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy striking the East Coast.

Walgreens Helps Create More Job Opportunities for People with Disabilities in Connecticut

DEERFIELD, Ill., October 24, 2012 - Nearly one year after launching an initiative to help create more job opportunities for people with disabilities in Connecticut, 62 participants have completed training under the Walgreens (NYSE: WAG) (Nasdaq: WAG) Retail Employees with Disabilities Initiative (REDI) program. The program’s goal is to prepare qualified candidates for employment at Walgreens retail locations, as well as employment with other retailers that require similar skills. Of those who completed training, 17 have already obtained jobs at Walgreens locations throughout Connecticut as the company grows talent and recognizes ability through greater diversity in the workplace.

Walgreens and ACCESS Reaffirm Commitment to Help Increase Vaccination Rates in Chicago's Most Medically Underserved Communities

CHICAGO, Oct. 9, 2012 – To help improve flu immunization rates in underserved communities, Walgreens (NYSE, NASDAQ: WAG) and Access Community Health Network (ACCESS) are again working together to provide greater access to flu vaccines this season. Through this collaboration, Walgreens is providing 5, 000 free flu shot vouchers to ACCESS to help those without health insurance coverage and those unable to afford a flu shot without the voucher. This effort will also help patients link to a medical home at ACCESS.

Walgreens Donations after Hurricane Isaac Reach more than $100,000 in First Week after Storm

DEERFIELD, Ill., September 5, 2012 - In the week after Hurricane Isaac made landfall along the Gulf Coast, Walgreens (NYSE: WAG) (NASDAQ: WAG) responded with donations of more than $100,000 worth of products to the American Red Cross for relief efforts in the hardest-hit states. The company delivered three truckloads of food items to Red Cross facilities in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama for distribution to first responders and those in need.

Walgreens and HHS Collaborate on Development of Medication Therapy Management Model to Help Improve Health Outcomes for HIV Patients

DEERFIELD, Ill., July 24, 2012 - Building upon its commitment to provide convenient, compassionate and confidential support and resources to HIV patients needing to manage their disease and live well, Walgreens (NYSE: WAG)(NASDAQ: WAG) announced plans to work with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to develop an innovative medication therapy management (MTM) program to help improve outcomes for HIV patients. The multi-year program will examine the impact of MTM intervention in the community pharmacy setting, with Walgreens anticipating to provide nearly $1 million in in-kind services. The initiative was announced by HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius at the International AIDS Conference in Washington, D.C. this week.
